Your gut microbiome is an entire ecosystem which exists inside your large intestine. And as with any ecosystem like a rainforest, the health of your microbiome is represented by the diversity and richness of the environment and organisms living within it. All of which can have a profound effect on your health, from digesting food to resistance to disease.
Your StrideBiome report will explore just how diverse your own “inner rainforest” is, by assessing the richness and balance of the bacteria living there. And most importantly, how to improve and support it.
Learning the makeup and health of your microbiome is just the first step, the next stage is understanding the impact beyond your gut - how is your health affected by our microbial neighbours.
Your StrideBiome report breaks down our findings into key health traits to fully understand potential impacts and discover ways to tackle them. Our experts can add even more personalised advice during your one-to-one consultation to address any specific concerns you may have.
Navigating your microbiome results can be difficult, that’s why we’ve made our StrideBiome reports as easy to use as possible, with a focus on the steps you can take to make improvements.
However, sometimes it’s nice to have an extra helping hand! Our Stride experts are available to talk you through everything, adding valuable context as well as addressing any specific concerns you may have. A 30 minute one-to-one consultation is included as part of your StrideBiome report.
When will I receive my test kit?
Your sample collection kit is sent by Royal Mail 24hr Tracked so will be with you within 1 day of dispatch
How do I provide my sample?
You will be required to provide a stool sample, which means taking a pea-sized sample of your poop. We aim to make this as easy and convenient as possible by providing a handy collection device, which attaches to your toilet and can be flushed away afterwards. Simply use the provided spatula to collect your sample and place it in the collection tube. Place the tube back in the delivery box, then inside the prepaid mailing bag, and post it back to us! We use Royal Mail 24hr Tracked service to return your sample.
When will I get my results?
Lab analysis typically takes 15 to 20 business days from the date we receive your sample. You'll be notified once the sample is at our lab, and again once your results are ready.
What will my results tell me?
Your StrideBiome report will focus on two key areas: an overall high-level diversity score, and a more specific view of how your results can affect certain health traits. If you have other specific concerns that you'd like to know more about, we also provide the full breakdown of your microbiome (at the genus level) as well as the relative abundance. Furthermore, a consultation with one of our experts should provide you with all the information you need.
How accurate are my results?
Your stool sample is analysed using the latest gold-standard 16S rRNA technology, meaning your raw bacterial data is extremely accurate. However, it is important to note that interpreting these results is somewhat subjective and based on available databases and reference ranges. Stride is building a comprehensive database which will allow us to continually improve the effectiveness of our interpretation of your results. And of course, you will be able to clearly see changes from one test to the next in order to track your own progress.
What if I don't understand my results?
We include a one-to-one 30 minute consultation with one of our in-house experts to help you make sense of all your results and answer any questions you may have.
Can the test help with my IBS?
Your gut microbiome can provide information relating to a whole host of conditions. Certain bacterial groups can have specific impacts on a range of health issues, and your report will explain these to you. However, our test is not a medical diagnostic test and you should always consult your doctor with any serious health concerns.
Should I retest my microbiome?
Yes! Your microbiome is constantly changing and evolving, and changes in diet, lifestyle and even sleep and stress patterns can have a huge impact. Your microbiome results are a snapshot of a particular point in time: we recommend retesting your biome every 3 months, or whenever you make any significant changes to your diet or lifestyle, or suffer any illnesses. This can be a great way to build a picture of what a healthy biome looks like for you, and help you identify potential issues, even before they happen!
Do I need to complete a questionnaire before providing my sample?
Yes, it's important to provide as much information as possible when giving your sample. This is to help make sense of your results in the context of your current situation, and over time it will help us build up a strong database of evidence to understand exactly how multiple aspects affect the microbiome. In turn, this will help us provide you (and many others) with even more accurate advice.
